Mongolia Launches Competitive Auction for 220MW Solar and 135MW/440MWh BESS Projects Across 5 Provinces

Mongolia is taking a significant step in its renewable energy expansion. Ministry of Energy has launched a competitive auction covering 5 Independent Power Producer (IPP) lots:

  • Lot 1: 50MW Solar + 30MW/100MWh BESS (Bulgan province)
  • Lot 2: 20MW Solar + 15MW/40MWh BESS (Khentii province)
  • Lot 3: 50MW Solar + 30MW/100MWh BESS (Uvurkhangai province)
  • Lot 4: 50MW Solar + 30MW/100MWh BESS (Govisumber province)
  • Lot 5: 50MW Solar + 30MW/100MWh BESS (Dundgovi province)

Ministry of Energy is seeking experienced private sector developers to design, finance, construct and operate these projects under a Build-Own-Operate or similar structure. Each project includes the solar plant, BESS and all related grid connection infrastructure.

Key details for interested developers:

Foreign entities must apply jointly with a Mongolia-registered legal entity. Developers may express interest for 1 lot only. Expressions of interest (non-binding) must be submitted in English as a single PDF, including a company profile (max. 10 pages), two most recent audited financial statements (2024-2025) and relevant annual reports.
