Bogd Bank Secures USD 15 Million from BlueOrchard to Support Mongolian MSMEs

Bogd Bank JSC has secured US$15 million from BlueOrchard, a Swiss-based global impact investment manager and member of the Schroders Group, to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Mongolia. The funding will help local businesses invest, expand their operations and create jobs.
Why It Matters
Another layer of funding diversification. The facility follows Bogd Bank’s busy year in international markets. In May 2026, the bank priced its debut US$75 million three-year senior notes with a 9.50% coupon, then returned within six weeks with a US$25 million tap, bringing the 2029 notes to US$100 million. Adding an impact investor like BlueOrchard alongside bondholders and DFIs further broadens a funding base that now extends well beyond domestic deposits.
Credit standing supports access. Moody’s recently affirmed Bogd Bank at ‘B2’ with a Stable outlook, citing strong capitalization and profitability. A stable rating gives international lenders added comfort when committing capital to a privately owned, non-systemic Mongolian bank.
Focused on the real economy. As a specialist SME and retail lender, Bogd Bank is well placed to channel BlueOrchard’s funding directly to the small businesses that drive employment across Mongolia.
Part of a wider trend. The deal adds to a strong month for Mongolian banks raising impact-focused capital, following FinDev Canada’s US$50 million loan to Golomt Bank and Khan Bank’s US$172 million syndicated facility led by FMO, in which BlueOrchard also participated. BlueOrchard’s repeat commitments across the sector signal growing confidence among global impact investors in Mongolia’s financial institutions.
What to Watch
Key indicators will be the growth of Bogd Bank’s MSME loan book, further international funding following its bond tap and stable rating, and whether other mid-sized Mongolian banks follow its path into diversified international funding.
